MANKATO, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field team competed in the first of two Maverick Opens this week.
For the SMSU women's team,
Shealyn Tom set the SMSU school record in the pole vault with a height of 3.59 meters to place second.
Macie Langstraat placed third in the 800-meter with a time of 2:21.22.
Sierra Clifford completed the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.41 to place sixth.
Hannah Koepfinger has a throw of 30.74m to place eighth in the javelin throw.
Taytum Klink placed ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.71.
Catherine Ihrke finished the 1500 in 5:16.77 to place ninth.
Kyra Kusnierek finished with a time of 12:45.17 in the 3000-meter steeplechase to place ninth.
Nadia Sanford placed 10th in the discus throw with a distance of 39.29.
On the men's side
Junior Kandolo placed third in the long jump with a distance of 6.92m.
In the 400-meter hurdles
Max Schmitt finished fourth with a time of 55.32.
The team of
Tyler Smith, Schmitt,
Nathan Lear and
Luke Grannes finished fourth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.29
A pair of Mustangs placed top 10 in the hammer throw, with
Carl Swedzinski placing sixth with a distance of 49.75m and
Tyler Nebelung placing 10th with a distance of 45.74.
Nebelung also placed 10th in the shot put with a distance of 13.39m.
Noah Eckelberg competed in the 400-meter wheelchair race and completed it in a time of 53.89 as well as the 100-meter with a time of 15.65.
Tyler Smith ran the 400-meter in 49.38 to place sixth.
Deekon Anvid placed eighth in the discus throw with a distance of 46.43m.
Tyler Wilson recorded a throw of 36.15 in the javelin throw to place 10th.
SMSU will return to action for the second Maverick Open on Saturday, May 6.
