CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced this week three Southwest Minnesota State University golfers have been selected to the 2022-23 Division II WGCA All-America Scholar Team.
Named to the team include senior
Sally Gallagher, junior
Jacqueline Gossen and freshman
Berkley Steffen.
A total of 1,401 women golfers in Division I, II, and III earned the honor. The criteria for selection to the All-Scholar Team include a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average following the 2023 spring semester and have played in 50 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year through the team's conference championship.
Gallagher, a native of Moville, Iowa, finished her senior season with a team-low 82.2 average in 23 rounds and had a GPA of 3.76 in physical education & teaching. It's the fourth straight season she has earned the WGCA scholar award.
Gossen finished her third season at SMSU with a 3.96 GPA in accounting and finance. The Brooten, Minn., native played in all 23 rounds this season and finished with an 84.8 average. It's the third straight season she has earned the WGCA scholar award.
Steffen, a native of Glenwood, Minn., played in 18 rounds and closed the season with an 89.2 stroke average. A biology major, she finished the year with a 3.64 GPA.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.
Today, the WGCA represents over 650 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
