NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's & men's track & field teams resumed action on Saturday competing at the Ole Opener hosted by St. Olaf College. SMSU athletes combined for five first place finishes on the day.
For the SMSU women's team,
Shealyn Tom captured first place in the pole vault with a height of 3.35m with
Zoe Ruschmeier earning third place for the Mustangs at 2.90m.
Nadia Sanford picked-up a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.37m, while teammate
Emily Lorentz was right behind in second place at 12.15m.
Lorentz claimed second place in the weight throw at 15.56m with Sanford closing in third place at 15.17m.
Anna Holst finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.10, while
Sierra Clifford also placed second in the 600-meters at 1:41.28.
Rainbow Stands went 1.50m in the high jump to earn second place, while teammate
Leah Tietjens finished fourth at 1.45m.
Ella Doble earned third place in the 400-meters at 1:04.82.
Macie Langstraat crossed the line in fourth place in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:27.56.
On the men's side,
Hunter Smith won the pole vault clearing 4.25m, while
Peda Zeba won the triple jump with a distance of 13.71m.
Carl Swedzinski secured a first-place mark in the weight throw with a distance of 17.19m.
McKallen Smith tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.80m. Swedzinski also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 13.76m.
Greg Schafer ran 7.08 in the 60-meters to finish fourth overall, while also placing sixth in the 200-meters at 23.52.
SMSU returns to action next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27, at the Mark Shuck Multi & Open in Mankato, Minn.
