COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams racked-up eight first-place finishes on Saturday competing at the CSB/SJU Invitational held inside the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
On the men's side,
Greg Schafer earned his first collegiate victory in the 60-meters closing with a winning time of 7.03. He also finished sixth in the 200-meters at 23.26.
Ivan Barrera crossed the finish line first in the 1-mile with a time of 4:39.85.
Seth Torgerson also claimed a first-place finish for the Mustangs running a 16:22.34 in the 5,000-meters.
Peda Zeba picked-up a first-place distance in the triple jump with a leap of 13.84m.
SMSU finished 1-2 in the weight throw with
Tyler Nebelung taking home first-place with a throw of 17.52m with
Carl Swedzinski right behind at 17.32m.
Max Schmitt and
Chaden Carroll both advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with Schmitt running 8.65 to finish third overall, while Carroll placed eighth 9.83.
For the SMSU women's team,
Sierra Clifford claimed first-place in the 200-meters with a time of 26.46, while finishing second in the 400-meters at 59.10.
Nadia Sanford won the shot put with a throw of 13.56m with
Emily Lorentz earning fourth-place at 12.09m. Sanford also earned a third-place finish in the weight throw at 15.26m, while Lorentz finished fourth at 14.61m.
Christine Sleeter cleared 1.60 in the high jump to take home first-place with teammate
Rainbow Stands finishing in second-place at 1.55m.
Shealyn Tom recorded a second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.40m.
Lexy Gilbert ran in the finals of the 60-meters and earned an eighth-place time of 8.22.
SMSU will have its last meet prior to the NSIC Championships this Friday, Feb. 16, competing at the Maverick Invitational in Mankato. The NSIC Championships will take place on Feb. 23-24 in Mankato.
