MITCHELL, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams recorded third first-place finishes and had numerous top five place winners competing at the Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Meet on Saturday.
On the men's side,
Carl Swedzinski captured first-place in the weight throw with a toss of 17.56m, while
Tyler Nebelung finished in second-place at 17.11m. Nebelung also placed fifth in the shot put at 14.37m with Swedzinski in sixth place at 14.08m.
Tyler Smith earned another first-place time in the 400-meters crossing the line at 50.27 and was also second in the 200-meters at 22.92.
Peda Zeba picked-up a second-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14m.
Hunter Smith finished third overall in the pole vault with a mark of 4.35m.
McKallen Smith earned fifth-place in the high jump at 1.80m.
Shealyn Tom cleared 3.32m in the pole vault to earn first-place for the SMSU women's team.
Nadia Sanford recorded a toss of 15.13m to finish second in the weight throw with teammate
Emily Lorentz right behind in third-place at 14.77m. Sanford also placed third in the shot put at 13.35m.
Rainbow Stands finished at 1.57m in the high jump to finish second overall.
Kyra Kusnierek and
Brooke Wetterstrom finished second and third respectively in the 600-meters with times of 1:42.90 and 1:43.86, while
Brycelyn Hanson ran 1:45.97 to finish fifth overall.
Ella Doble ran 1:02.68 to finish second in the 400-meters, while
Macie Langstraat ran 2:24.62 to place third in the 800-meters.
Madison Marco ran 5:27.03 to finish fourth in the 1-mile.
SMSU will next be in action on Saturday with a majority of the team competing at the Saint John's Invite in Collegeville, Minn.
