WEEKEND PREVIEW
• The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team (1-5) is back in action with a pair of doubleheaders at the Mustang Invitational.
• The tournament will be played inside the ASB Sports Complex near the campus of Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa.
• SMSU kicks off the weekend with a night series versus Truman State (Mo.) (4-5) on Saturday, with the first pitch of game one set for 7 p.m.
• The Mustangs round out the weekend on Sunday with another night series, playing Quincy (Ill.) starting at 6 p.m.
• Following this weekend, SMSU will have 16 non-conference games in Clermont, Fla., from March 3-12, before starting its 28-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference slate on March 22 against Minnesota Crookston.

HEAD COACH BAILEY BOUMAN
•
Bailey Bouman is in her seventh season as head coach at SMSU with an overall record of 113-153, including 64-80 in NSIC play.
• The 11th head coach in program history, Bouman was named to the position on Aug. 8, 2018.
• SMSU finished with a 19-32 overall mark in 2024, missing the NSIC tournament by one game.
Abby Boxrud and
Paris Van Dyke became the first Mustangs to earn All-NSIC Defensive honors in the Bouman era.
• The Mustangs finished the 2023 season 17-32 and missed the NSIC Tournament for the first time in three seasons.
• SMSU finished 21-31 in 2022 and won its second NSIC Tournament game in consecutive seasons.
• The Mustangs finished 27-20 in 2021, their best season since 2011, while winning their first NSIC tournament game since Bouman's first season in 2019.
• SMSU finished 19-26 during her first season in 2019 and qualified for the NSIC Tournament.
• Bouman was an assistant coach with the SMSU women's basketball program from 2015-17 and was also an assistant women's basketball coach at Dordt College (Iowa) before returning to SMSU.
• Bouman is a 2014 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls where she played both basketball and softball for the Cougars.
SCOUTING TRUMAN STATE
• Truman State is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
• The Bulldogs were picked eighth in the 2025 GLVC preseason poll after finishing sixth in the conference last season with a 23-29 overall record including a 13-13 mark in conference play.
• TSU holds a 15-6 edge in the all-time series that began in 1990.
• SMSU has lost the previous three meetings of the series but has won five of the last 10.
• The Bulldogs hold a 14-3 all-time advantage in neutral site contests.
SCOUTING QUINCY
• Quincy is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
• The Hawks were voted 14th in 2025 GLVC preseason poll after finishing 14th in the conference last season with a 15-35 overall record including a 4-22 mark in conference play.
• The lone meeting in the series happened in 1992, resulting in a 0-2 loss for SMSU.
LAST TIME OUT
• SMSU poured in four seventh-inning runs to take game one 6-5, before falling 0-4 in game two against the Regis (Colo.) Rangers in a doubleheader played inside the Husky Dome last Saturday.
• SMSU totaled eight hits in the win with
Riley Kramolisch and
Brynn Webber each going 2 for 4 at the dish with an RBI, while
Abby Russell finished 1 for 1 and drew three walks.

Karlie Miller (1-2) was given the win in game one after striking out seven in a complete game while allowing five runs (three earned).
• The Mustangs limited to four hits in the 0-4 game two loss. Regis held control for the entirety of the second game scoring two runs in the first and a pair of runs in the fourth and never looked back.

Emma Humpal leads SMSU in batting going 5 for 16 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and three walks.

Abby Russell is batting .294 (5 for 17) including a double and RBI with three walks.

Brynn Webber leads the team with a pair of triples on five hits, while drawing two walks and recording three RBIs.

MUSTANGS EARN POSTSEASON HONORS IN 2024
• SMSU had two players receive accolades following the 2024 season.
• Right fielder,
Abby Boxrud, and first baseman,
Paris Van Dyke, were both selected to the All-NSIC Defensive team.
• Boxrud started every game in right field last season and led both SMSU and the NSIC with a 1.000 field pct. on 68 putouts.
• Van Dyke made 43 starts at first base finishing second in the league in fielding pct. (.997), fourth in fielding double plays (13), and ninth in putouts (305).
SMSU PICKED 10TH IN NSIC PRESEASON POLL
• SMSU was chosen 10th in the 2025 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll as voted on by the leagues 15 head coaches.
