WEEKEND PREVIEW
• The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team (0-4) is back in action with its first doubleheader series of the season playing Regis (Colo.) (0-5) on Saturday afternoon.
• The series will be played inside the Husky Dome on the campus of St. Cloud State University.
• Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
• Following Saturday's series, SMSU will host the Mustang Invitational tournament in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Feb. 15-16. The Mustangs will be host to St. Cloud State, Winona State, William Jewell (Mo.), Quincy (Ill.), and Truman State (Mo.).
• After the tournament in Iowa, SMSU will have 16 non-conference games in Clermont, Fla., from March 3-12, before starting its 28-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference slate on March 22 against Minnesota Crookston.

HEAD COACH BAILEY BOUMAN
•
Bailey Bouman is in her seventh season as head coach at SMSU with an overall record of 112-152, including 64-80 in NSIC play.
• The 11th head coach in program history, Bouman was named to the position on Aug. 8, 2018.
• SMSU finished with a 19-32 overall mark in 2024, missing the NSIC tournament by one game.
Abby Boxrud and
Paris Van Dyke became the first Mustangs to earn All-NSIC Defensive honors in the Bouman era.
• The Mustangs finished the 2023 season 17-32 and missed the NSIC Tournament for the first time in three seasons.
• SMSU finished 21-31 in 2022 and won its second NSIC Tournament game in consecutive seasons.
• The Mustangs finished 27-20 in 2021, their best season since 2011, while winning their first NSIC tournament game since Bouman's first season in 2019.
• SMSU finished 19-26 during her first season in 2019 and qualified for the NSIC Tournament.
• Bouman was an assistant coach with the SMSU women's basketball program from 2015-17 and was also an assistant women's basketball coach at Dordt College (Iowa) before returning to SMSU.
• Bouman is a 2014 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls where she played both basketball and softball for the Cougars.
SCOUTING REGIS
• Regis is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
• The Rangers finished fifth in the RMAC last season with a 33-26 overall record including a 24-18 mark in conference play.
• Saturday will mark the fourth and fifth games between SMSU and RU, with the Rangers holding a 2-1 edge in the all-time series that began in 2009.
• The teams split the most recent doubleheader in the series.
• SMSU is 4-9 all-time (excluding RU) against RMAC schools.
MUSTANG EXTRA BASES
• SMSU opened the 2025 season last weekend dropping four non-conference games to NSIC opponents at the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament in St. Cloud, Minn.
• The Mustangs batted .243 over the weekend with 26 hits and 12 RBIs.

Emma Humpal collected four hits and a pair of RBIs including going 2 for 2 at the plate with a walk against UMD on Sunday.
•
Karlie Miller also strung together four hits, including a pair of doubles and two RBIs.
•
Abby Boxrud recorded three hits and drew a team-high three walks.
• Miller also fired 13 innings for SMSU in the circle, recording six strikeouts in two complete games.
•
Jordyn Marsh threw a complete game in her first collegiate start collecting eight strikeouts.
MUSTANGS EARN POSTSEASON HONORS IN 2024
• SMSU had two players receive accolades following the 2024 season.
• Right fielder,
Abby Boxrud, and first baseman,
Paris Van Dyke, were both selected to the All-NSIC Defensive team.
• Boxrud started every game in right field last season and led both SMSU and the NSIC with a 1.000 field pct. on 68 putouts.
• Van Dyke made 43 starts at first base finishing second in the league in fielding pct. (.997), fourth in fielding double plays (13), and ninth in putouts (305).
SMSU PICKED 10TH IN NSIC PRESEASON POLL
• SMSU was chosen 10th in the 2025 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll as voted on by the leagues 15 head coaches.
• Augustana, the four-time defending NSIC regular season champions and preseason No. 7 in the Division II National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll, were chosen as the preseason favorite in earning 196 points with all 14 first place votes (coaches cannot rank their own team).

Karlie Miller were both named "Players to Watch" in the conference this season.
SEASON OPENERS
• SMSU is 32-22 all-time in season openers and is 11-5 in openers since the 2010 season after suffering a 7-0 loss to UMD last Saturday.
