GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, the organization announced on Wednesday. The Mustangs were one of 88 NCAA Division II teams to claim the scholastic honor.

It's the third straight season SMSU, which closed the 2024-25 academic year with a 3.32 GPA, has earned the award.

SMSU had six players earn Academic All-NSIC honors this spring with seniors
Cameron Jensen and
Carter Petron, also earning College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades.

The ABCA recognized 400 collegiate programs from across the country with the award. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2024-25 academic year.

The Mustangs finished the 2025 season with a 23-24 overall record, including 18-22 in the NSIC.
