WEEKEND PREVIEW
The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team (6-4) travels to Clermont, Fla., competing in THE Spring Games beginning on March 2.
The Mustangs face Seton Hill (Pa.) three times and Northwood (Mich.) twice, as well as facing Saint Anslem (N.H.), Glenville State (W. Va.) and Dominican (N.Y.) in the first five days of the tournament.
SMSU then travels to Tampa to face the Tampa Spartans in a doubleheader on March 7.

RECAP OF UNK DOUBLEHEADER
SMSU defeated UNK 9-1 in five innings in game one, propelled by a seven-run fifth inning.
Jordyn Marsh (5-0) pitched all five innings for the Mustangs in the game, allowing just one hit with one walk, striking out 10 UNK batters.
Six Mustang batters had two hits in the contest, with freshman Carley Stych leading the team in RBIs with three, and freshman Aliza Acker hitting her first career homerun. Lexi Ingalls drove in two runs, while Emma Humpal, Marsh, and Kennah Bretschneider drove in one run each.
UNK pitcher Kalli Ulven (0-2) was credited with a loss after going 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs and striking out one Mustang.
In game two the Mustangs fell victim to a Lopers' seventh-inning three-run home run, dropping the game 4-1.
Ramsey Hopp (1-3) pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on ten hits and two walks, fanning five UNK batters.
Contrary to game one, the Mustangs had only three hits in game two, with Riley Kramolisch, Aliza Acker and Paris Van Dyke applying the offense for SMSU.
UNK's Chloe Odle (4-1) was awarded the win after coming off the bench in the fourth inning, pitching the remainder of the game allowing two hits, two walks and no runs with one strikeout.
MUSTANGS BY THE NUMBERS
Jordyn Marsh is dominating both in the field and at the plate. The sophomore holds a 5-0 record with five complete games and a 1.70 ERA. In 33 innings, she has allowed 26 hits, 10 runs (eight earned) and eight walks, striking out 40 batters. Marsh is also hitting .500 in 16 at-bats this season, with two doubles, a homerun, and nine RBIs. Marsh has an OPS of 1.449.
Freshman Aliza Acker leads all qualified hitters on the team in both batting average (.462) and hits with 14 including two doubles and a homerun, while Grace Anderson is hitting .391 with a double and a triple racking up eight RBIs.
Junior Emma Humpal is second on the team with a 1.093 OPS, leading the team with three doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBIs.
Senior Riley Kramolisch has 10 hits with two triples in the leadoff spot for the Mustangs, hitting .270 on the early season.
Freshman third-baseman Carley Stych is second on the team with 10 RBIs, with a .267 batting average, and two doubles.
Freshman Ramsey Hopp (1-3) in four starts has a 3.25 ERA in 32 1/3 innings, allowing 49 hits and 21 runs (15 earned), striking out 13 batters.
HEAD COACH BAILEY BOUMAN
Bailey Bouman is in her seventh season as head coach at SMSU with an overall record of 147-178, including 75-97 in NSIC play.
The 11th head coach in program history, Bouman was named to the position on Aug. 8, 2018.
The Mustangs finished the 2025 campaign with a 29-26 record, the second winning record for Bouman as head coach, with a 11-17 NSIC record and a ninth-place finish in the conference.
SMSU finished with a 19-32 overall mark in 2024. Abby Boxrud and Paris Van Dyke became the first Mustangs to earn All-NSIC Defensive honors in the Bouman era.
The Mustangs finished the 2023 season 17-32 and missed the NSIC Tournament for the first time in three seasons.
SMSU finished 21-31 in 2022 and won its second NSIC Tournament game in consecutive seasons.
The Mustangs finished 27-20 in 2021, their best season since 2011, while winning their first NSIC tournament game since Bouman's first season in 2019.
SMSU finished 19-26 during her first season in 2019 and qualified for the NSIC Tournament.
Bouman was an assistant coach with the SMSU women's basketball program from 2015-17 and was also an assistant women's basketball coach at Dordt College (Iowa) before returning to SMSU.
Bouman is a 2014 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls where she played both basketball and softball for the Cougars.
