SMSU softball hosts final games of 2026 at Mustang Field this week

WEEKEND PREVIEW
The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team (25-23, 11-11 NSIC) host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend for the final games at Mustang Field this season.
After a rescheduling of games, SMSU will host Northern State on Friday, beginning at 1 p.m.
SMSU is scheduled to host Jamestown on Saturday for Alumni Day and Riley Kramolisch Senior Day., beginning at 1 p.m.

RECAP OF LAST WEEK
The Mustangs split a doubleheader with Augustana on Thursday, dropping game one 6-0 before winning game two 2-1.
Jordyn Marsh in game two pitched all seven innings allowing the one run on five hits and striking out two batters. Marsh along with Grace Anderson provided the RBIs in game two.
SMSU could not build on the split in Sioux Falls however, losing both games on Sunday to Wayne State 12-6 in game one and 10-3 in game two.
Paris Van Dyke had four hits in the two games, along with two RBIs, and an inside the park home run.
 
MUSTANGS BY THE NUMBERS
Jordyn Marsh (17-7 leads the Mustangs on the mound with a 2.01 ERA with 109 strikeouts and a batting average against of .253. The sophomore is also batting .269 with five doubles, two home runs, and 22 RBIs.
Freshman Aliza Acker leads the Mustangs with a .351 batting average, 54 hits, and 12 doubles, and four home runs. Acker is third in RBIs with 22 and runs scored with 25.
Junior outfielder Paris Van Dyke after a strong series against Wayne State is now batting .320 on the year, second highest on the team. Van Dyke is tied for second in doubles with seven and third in hits with 37.
Senior Riley Kramolisch is second on the team with 49 hits, a batting average of .306 and two triples. She is one of two players with 27 runs scored. Kramolisch became the eighth Mustang in team history to record 200 hits in a career in late March.
Grace Anderson is hitting .291 with four doubles and two home runs. Anderson is tied for fourth on the team with 17 RBIs.
Junior Emma Humpal leads the Mustangs with 24 RBIs, is second in walks with 18, and fourth with 36 hits. Humpal was selected as NSIC Player of the Week in mid-February.
Freshman Ramsey Hopp (8-15) has a 4.85 ERA in 134 1/3 innings. In 76 at-bats at the plate, Hopp has a batting average of .329 and 16 RBIs.
 
HEAD COACH BAILEY BOUMAN
Bailey Bouman is in her seventh season as head coach at SMSU with an overall record of 166-197, including 86-108 in NSIC play.
The 11th head coach in program history, Bouman was named to the position on Aug. 8, 2018.
The Mustangs finished the 2025 campaign with a 29-26 record, the second winning record for Bouman as head coach, with a 11-17 NSIC record and a ninth-place finish in the conference.
SMSU finished with a 19-32 overall mark in 2024. Abby Boxrud and Paris Van Dyke became the first Mustangs to earn All-NSIC Defensive honors in the Bouman era.
The Mustangs finished the 2023 season 17-32 and missed the NSIC Tournament for the first time in three seasons.
SMSU finished 21-31 in 2022 and won its second NSIC Tournament game in consecutive seasons.
The Mustangs finished 27-20 in 2021, their best season since 2011, while winning their first NSIC tournament game since Bouman's first season in 2019.
SMSU finished 19-26 during her first season in 2019 and qualified for the NSIC Tournament.
Bouman was an assistant coach with the SMSU women's basketball program from 2015-17 and was also an assistant women's basketball coach at Dordt College (Iowa) before returning to SMSU.
Bouman is a 2014 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls where she played both basketball and softball for the Cougars.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST THE WOLVES
SMSU faces Northern State for the 100th and 101st time on Friday in a series dating back to 1986. The Mustangs hold a 71-28 advantage all time.
The series is split 5-5 in the last 10 meetings between the two, and all time are 28-9 in games in Marshall, with SMSU winning the last four games played at Mustang Field.
Coach Bouman holds a 7-8 record against the Wolves.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST THE JIMMIES
The Mustangs will meet Jamestown for the 8th and 9th time on Saturday in a series dating back to 1989. The Mustangs lead the series 7-0
This will be the first series the Jimmies will play SMSU as a member of the NSIC.
Bailey Bouman has never faced Jamestown as coach of SMSU.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE MUSTANGS
SMSU finishes the regular season next week in North Dakota, facing Minot State on Saturday, May 2, and UMary the following day.
 
MUSTANG HISTORY
Southwest Minnesota State is in its 55th season of softball in 2026.
SMSU has played in 2,163 games, compiling an all-time record of 1,098-1,064-1.
The Mustangs have won 10 NSIC regular season championships, two NSIC Tournament titles and has played in four NCAA Tournaments.
