Mustangs Fly Past Eagles for Exhibition Victory

Southwest Minnesota State used a balanced scoring attack while forcing Northwestern College (Minn.) into 29 turnovers to earn an 80-44 victory in exhibition men's basketball on Friday night in Marshall.

SMSU, which is 3-0 on the season, returns to regular season action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the University of North Dakota.

Redshirt freshman Trent Carlson led three SMSU players in double figures with 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting including drilling a game-high three three-pointers.  Redshirt freshman Kevin Smith added 11 points off the bench while junior Andrew Peschong chipped in with 10 points to round out SMSU's double figure scoring.

SMSU held a 37-29 rebound advantage over NWC with senior Ross DeMasi leading the team with six.

The Mustangs shot 44.8 percent from the field (31 of 62) including 35.3 percent (6 of 17) from three-point range.  The Eagles ended the game shooting 37.5 percent from the field including just 18.2 percent from three-point land.

SMSU finished the exhibition season 3-0 with wins over St. Olaf, South Dakota State and Northwestern.
