Mustangs Drop Season Opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
The Southwest Minnesota State softball team lost its season opener Friday morning at the RMAC/NSIC Crossover in Colorado Springs, Colo., falling to Regis (Colo.) 8-1.

SMSU was held to just five hits with freshman Christine Borowiak leading the way finishing 3 for 3.  Junior Meaghan Laetsch collected the other two hits for the Mustangs, who scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning for its lone run of the game.

Mustang starting pitcher Amanda Johnson suffered the loss on the mound for SMSU allowing six runs and eight hits in six inning of work, while striking out nine and walking two.

SMSU, 0-1 overall, will play Nebraska-Kearney at 4 p.m. CST on Friday afternoon.
