ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State softball dropped its opening game at the St. Cloud State Dome Classic on Saturday 3-0 to Minnesota State, Mankato.

MSU improves to  4-3, while SMSU drops to 2-5.

Amanda Johnson took the loss for the Mustangs, working six innings and allowing six hits.

Amanda Tucci went 2 for 3 for SMSU; Kristin Braden and Meaghan Laetsch each collected a hit, too.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when MSU drove in a run to make it 1-0.  The Mavericks tacked on another two runs in the fourth.

SMSU plays Northern State at 6 p.m.
