Kiley Petersen belted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the only run of the game to lift the Mustangs to a 1-0 victory over Wayne State at the NSIC Tournament in Marshall.
SMSU now advances to the title game to face Winona State. SMSU must win twice to earn the championship. Wayne State is eliminated with the loss.
Amanda Johnson tossed all seven innings for SMSU recording 10 strikeouts while allowing just three hits and one walk.
Meaghan Laetsch led the Mustang offense with two of the team's four hits.
SMSU is now 32-20 on the season.
