BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The Southwest Minnesota State indoor track and field teams opened the season today competing at the SDSU Open held at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
On the men's side,
Alex Weis broke his own school record in the shot put with a toss of 16.27m to finish second overall.
Ben Ryan had a big day with personal best 22.59 in the 200 meters to finish in second place.
Bashir Aidrus placed fourth in the 1-mile run with a school record time of 4:32.71.
In the long jump,
Zach Jones recorded a mark of 6.54m to finish in fifth place.
For the SMSU women,
Kim Shabino advanced to the finals of the 60 meters and placed seventh with a time of 8.06.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to action on Jan. 7, 2017, at the Minnesota State Alumni Open.
