MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's track & field teams had a strong day at the Minnesota State Marshall Open on Saturday, competing in its last meet prior to next week's conference championships.
Logan Smidt set a school record in the women's javelin with a winning toss of 39.74m.
Zoe Sharp earned a fourth-place finish in the event with a throw of 35.44m.
Christine Sleeter finished third clearing 1.59m in the high jump.
Shealyn Tom closed with a mark of 3.36m in the pole vault to earn fourth-place.
Madison Marco ran 2:23.95 to finish fourth in the 800 meters with teammate
Marissa Pabst placing seventh at 2:27.50.
Anneka Sedelmyer finished with a time of 5:22.60 in the 1,500 meters to place seventh.
Emily Lorentz placed 10
th in the discus with a mark of 37.04m and was seventh in the shot put at 12.39m.
Jacob Kunkel highlighted the day for the men's team with an NCAA provisional jump of 2.05m in the high jump to finish in second place. The jump ranks second in team history.
Ole Taylor won the men's javelin with a throw of 52.54m.
Colton Johnson closed at 7.14m in the long jump to finish in fourth place with
BT Teboh in sixth place at 6.89m.
Roel Palomo put together a personal best time of 1:56.26 to place fourth in the 800 meters.
Cody Evers closed at 14.79 in the 110-meter hurdles to finish fifth after running a personal best time of 14.69 in the prelims.
Brad Tang and
Greg Schafer finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 100 meters at 10.87 and 10.98.
Deekon Anvid earned fifth place in the hammer with a distance of 53.79m and finished sixth in the discus at 49.61m.
Josh Coulby recorded a mark of 15.09m in the shot put to finish in sixth-place.
SMSU will compete next Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the NSIC Championships in Duluth, Minn.
