Mustang track & field set two records during busy weekend in Iowa

DES MOINES / INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field program had a pair of school records fall as athletes competed at both the Drake Relays and the Simpson College Kip Janvrin Open on Friday and Saturday.
 
At the Drake Relays on Saturday morning, the SMSU men's distance medley relay team of Roel Palomo, Dylan Schwarz, Elliott Hoffman and Matthew Groebner set a school record with a time of 10:36.35 to finish 10th overall. The time broke the previous program record by nearly 11 seconds set back in 1982.
 
Christine Sleeter had a strong day on Saturday placing fifth in the women's high jump at 1.66m, while Colton Johnson finished 19th in the men's high jump at 6.59m.
 
On Friday at the Simpson Janvrin Open, Madison Marco broke her own school record in the women's 3,000 steeplechase with a ninth-place time of 11:19.74.
 
At the Drake Relays on Friday morning, the SMSU women's 4x100 relay team of Michelle Marquard, Tavashia Hill, Savannah Klockziem and Ella Doble finished 26th with a time of 49.17.
 
The men's 4x100 relay squad of Brad Tang, Aidan Swenhaugen, Greg Schafer and BT Teboh ran 42.98 to finish 22nd.
 
The women's 4x400 relay consisting of Doble, Jada Backes, Klockziem and Kyra Kusnierek finished 27th with a time of 4:02.69.
 
The men's sprint medley relay of BT Teboh, Bjorn Mattick, Dylan Schwarz and Roel Palomo ran 3:35.75 to earn 10th place.
 
SMSU's 4x200 women's relay of Backes, Allison Watts, Hill and Doble placed 21st with a time of 1:43.95.
 
Deekon Anvid competed in the discus on Friday and placed 17th with a toss of 48.58.
 
Jacob Kunkel cleared sixth in the high jump on Friday with a career-tying best 2.03m to finish in sixth place.
 
At the Simpson Open, SMSU's Chaden Carroll won the men's pole vault clearing 4.40m.
 
Wyatt Lundstrom finished seventh in the javelin at 38.54m.  
 
Josh Coulby recorded a toss of 14.77m in the shot put to finish in eighth-place.
 
Anvid competed in Saturday's hammer throw and earned eighth place at 48.34m.
 
Cody Evers finished in 10th place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.09.
 
For the women's team, Zoe Sharp earned fourth in the javelin at 36.25m, while Seely Stockmoe placed seventh at 31.06m.
 
Allison Watts ran 15.22 in the 100-meter hurdles to earn fourth place.
 
Emily Lorentz earned a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.45m.
 
Michelle Marquard and Shealyn Tom placed third and fourth respectively in the pole vault at 3.50m and 3.35m.
 
SMSU will have a pair of meets in Mankato next week, competing Minnesota State Maverick Open #1 on Wednesday and the Minnesota State Maverick Open #2 on Saturday, May 2.
