MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams concluded its indoor season on Sunday in day two of the NSIC Indoor Championships on Saturday at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University.
The SMSU men's team finished with five points to earn an 11
th place, while the women's team recorded 7.5 points to place 13
th overall. Minnesota State won both the women's and men's team championships.
On Sunday,
Sierra Clifford ran 1:38.07 in the finals of the 600-meters to finish fifth overall and earn the team four points.
Nadia Sanford had a strong day with an NCAA provisional mark of 13.89m in the shot put to place sixth and earn three teams points.
Hannah Koepfinger competed in the pentathlon and set a school record accumulating 3,005 points to finish 14
th overall. She finished sixth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:30.41, was seventh in the long jump at 5.04m and ninth in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.42.
Rainbow Stands just missed placing in the high jump with a mark of 1.59m to finish ninth overall.
SMSU's 4x400 relay team of Clifford,
Emily Van Roekel,
Kyra Kusnierek and Koepfinger also just missed a top eight spot with a time of 4:02.56 to finish ninth.
For the men's team on Sunday,
Tyler Nebelung earned two team points with a seventh place toss of 15.40m in the shot put.
The 4x400 replay team of
Tyler Smith,
Nathan Lear,
McKallen Smith and
Max Schmitt and had its fastest time of the season to finish eighth overall at 3:29.
On Saturday,
Carl Swedzinski finished in seventh place in the weight throw with a mark of 17.48m, while Nebelung placed 11
th with a distance of 16.28m.
Hunter Smith placed ninth in the pole vault at 4.32m.
On the women's side on Saturday,
Shealyn Tom reached the podium with a tie for eighth place in the pole vault with a height of 3.41m, while
Nadia Sanford finished 10
th overall in the weight throw at 16.11m.
SMSU will now turn its attention to the outdoor season with its first meet scheduled for March 31.
