MITCHELL, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's indoor track & field teams had numerous first-place finishes and one school record while competing at the Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Meet on Saturday.
Shealyn Tom broke her own school record in the pole vault with a first-place mark of 3.44m. Teammate
Serena Schwartz placed third in the pole vault with a height of 2.99m.
Nadia Sanford took home first place in the weight throw with a toss of 16.05m, while
Morgan Hughes finished third at 14.36m.
Sanford also placed second in the shot put at 12.12m, with
Emily Lorentz finishing third at 12.05, while
Kate Battaforyen was right behind in fourth place at 12.01m.
Taytum Klink also earned a first-place finish recording a 5.33m mark in the long jump, while
Hannah Koepfinger finishing in third at 5.06m.
Koepfinger crossed the finish line in first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.56.
Stella Anderson finished second in the 60-meters at 8.01, with
Lexy Gilbert earning a second place time of 8.02. Gilbert was also second in the 200-meters with a time of 27.19.
Emily Van Roekel picked-up a first place time in the 400-meters at 1:01.77
SMSU went first and second in the high jump with
Rainbow Stands finishing atop at 1.58m, while Anderson was second at 1.53m.
Macie Langstraat ran 2:26.10 in the 800-meters to finish second with
Kyra Kusnierek placing right behind in third place at 2:26.56.
For the SMSU men,
Tyler Smith won the 400-meters with a time of 51.80 and also won the 200-meters crossing the line at 22.66.
Tyler Nebelung finished third in the shot put at 14.23m, while
Deekon Anvid was third at 14.21m.
Hunter Smith recorded a second place mark of 4.35m in the pole vault with teammates
Luke Grannes and
Daniel Byer tying for fourth place at 3.75m.
Jack Clark ran 9.39 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish fourth.
Carl Swedzinski earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw at 17.10, with Nebelung finishing sixth at 15.67m.
SMSU returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Saint John's Invitational in Collegeville, Minn.
