VERMILLION, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams closed its first meet of the outdoor season on Saturday at the second day the University of South Dakota Early Bird at Lillibridge Track Complex.
The meet featured nearly 30 teams from all over the region.
In Saturday's action,
Sierra Clifford ran 59.17 in the 400 meters to place 10
th out of 55 runners. Clifford also finished 22
nd in the 200 meters with a time of 25.60 with
Taytum Klink running at 26.40 to finish 40
th out of 100 competitors.
Macie Langstraat finished fourth in the 800 meters at 2:25.88, with
Kyra Kusnierek placing seventh at 2:27.58 and
Catherine Ihrke finishing in 10
th place at 2:31.64.
In the discus,
Nadia Sanford placed 28
th out of 84 with a mark of 38.88m, while teammate
Kate Battaforyen closing at 38.22m to finish 33
rd.
For the SMSU men's team on Saturday,
Tyler Smith ran 50.68 in the 400 meters to finish 14
th and also ran 22.08 in the 200 meters to place 28
th.
Junior Kandolo recorded a mark of 6.64m in the long jump to finish 17
th with
Nathan Lear placing 21
st at 6.34m.
Deekon Anvid was 12
th in the discus at 47.48m with
Tyler Nebelung finishing 16
th at 46.45m.
Lear also competed in the javelin and finished 13
th at 46.19m, while
Jack Clark was 18
th at 42.23m.
SMSU was scheduled to compete at the Saint John's Open on April 15, but the meet was canceled due to poor track conditions. Any updates on a new meet for that date will be updated at SMSUmustangs.com.
