FAIRBAULT, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's golf team closed its first tournament of the 2023-24 season on Tuesday afternoon shooting a final round 44-over-par 332, for a two-round total of 93-over 669, to place second at the six-team Maverick Invitational held at the Faribault Golf & Country Club.
Minnesota State won the team title with a 56-over 632 with MSU's Sammy Youngquist taking home medalist honors in the 43-player field with a 9-over 153.
SMSU's
Jacqueline Gossen had a strong two rounds to pace the Mustangs carding a 13-over 157 to finish fourth overall. Gossen finished with an opening round 4-over 76 on Monday before closing with 9-over 81 on Tuesday.
Berkley Steffen shot a 9-over 81 on Tuesday and finished tied for 14
th overall with a 25-over 169.
Ashley Trongard tied for 18
th overall with a 26-over 170, following a 10-over 82 on Tuesday.
Lauryn Driscoll placed 24
th overall following a 16-over 88 in the final round to close at 31-over 175, while
Danielle Podoll tied for 26
th at 33-over 177.
Meghan Pundsack played as an individual and tied for 14
th at 25-over 169.
Isabella Jacobs tied for 22
nd with a 30-over 174, while
Samantha Doherty was 34
th at 40-over 184.
SMSU returns to action on Sept. 5-6 at the Central Region Preview played at Adams Point Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo.
