MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams had a strong start on Friday competing at the Minnesota State Mark Schuck Open and Multi inside Meyer Field House.
SMSU had a pair of first-place finishes and set three school records on the day.
Tyler Smith crossed the line in the 500 meters with a school record time of 1:07.54 to capture first place. The previous record was 1:08.02 set by Trinity Brady in 2020.
Sierra Clifford set a school record in the 500 meters with a second-place time of 1:19.69. The previous school record time was 1:22.23 set by Kayla Jansky during the 2020 season.
The third record to fall on Friday was set by the women's distance medley team of
Macie Langstraat,
Emily Van Roekel,
Kyra Kusnierek and
Madison Marco, which earned first-place with a time of 12:47.33. The old record of 12:51.51 was set during the 2015 season.
