Mustang track & field teams conclude season on Saturday at NSIC Championships

DULUTH, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams concluded its season on Saturday competing in the third and final day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships held at Malosky Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth.
 
The SMSU men's team finished 11th with 13 points, while the women's team placed 13th with six points.
 
Minnesota State won both the men's and women's team championships.
 
In Saturday's action, Sierra Clifford earned the women's team a pair of points finishing seventh in the finals of the 400-meters with a time of 57.05.
 
Nadia Sanford finished 10th in the discus at 41.86m with Brigitte Rohrer earning 14th at 39.69m.
 
The women's 4x400 relay team of Clifford, Ella Doble, Kyra Kusnierek and Brooke Wetterstrom ran a season best 3:58.05 to earn ninth place.
 
For the men's team, Max Schmitt finished fifth in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles crossing the finish line at 53.93 to garner four team points.
 
Peda Zeba earned two team points in the triple jump with a mark of 13.71m to finish seventh overall. Colton Johnson placed ninth in the event with a distance of 13.53m.
 
DJ Rock cleared 4.31m in the pole vault to finish eighth overall and earn one team point.
 
SMSU's 4x100 relay team of Tyler Smith, Jack Clark, Schmitt and Greg Schafer ran 42.24 to finish seventh and earn two team points.  
 
Earlier in the championship, Clark broke the school record in the decathlon placing ninth overall with 5,628 points. During the opening day on Thursday, he set a season best mark of 1.82m in the high jump to place third and ran a personal best 54.15 in the 400 meters to finish ninth. He finished at 11.30 in the 100 meters to place seventh, was 10th in the long jump at 5.93m and finished 11th in the shot put at 10.16m.
 
On Friday, Clark began the day running 15.72 in the 110-meter hurdles to place fifth. He finished 12th in the discus at 22.28m, was 11th in the pole vault at 3.26m, earned fifth finish in the javelin with a toss of 43.24m and closed with a seventh place finish in the 1,500 meters at 5:10.68.
 
Also on Friday, Jacob Kunkel recorded a season best mark of 1.97m in the high jump to earn three team points with Ryan Kronbach clearing 1.92m to finish eighth and earn one team point.
 
Tyler Nebelung earned a top 15 finish in the hammer throw placing 14th at 50.28m.
 
Logan Roelofs set a personal best 10:23.50 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to place 15th, while teammate Seth Torgerson also set a personal best placing 18th at 10:34.01.
 
Madison Marco earned the SMSU women's team three points during Friday's competition with a school record time of 11:19.75 to finish sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
 
Sanford earned one team point with an eighth place toss in the hammer throw at 46.15m.
 
Rainbow Stands finished 11th in the high jump at 1.62m with teammate Christine Sleeter placing 13th at 1.57m.
 
Emily Lorentz earned 11th place in the shot put at 12.84m.
 
Zoe Ruschmeier and Michelle Marquard tied for 13th in the pole vault at 3.21m.
