MADISON, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State track & field squads recorded several high place winners, including seven first-place finishes while competing at the Dakota State Twilight on Tuesday.
The Mustang women's team had two individuals earn first place with
Sierra Clifford winning the 400 meters crossing the finish line with a time of 57.91.
Christine Sleeter earned first place in the high jump clearing 1.60, while teammate
Rainbow Stands finished second at 1.55m.
Shealyn Tom cleared 3.45m to win the pole vault with
Zoe Ruschmeier closing in second at 3.15m.
Carissa Andres earned first place in the 1,500 meters at 5:19.15.
Nancy Peter placed second in the long jump at 4.98m and was second in the triple jump at 10.96m.
Lexy Gilbert ran 12.85 in the 100 meters to finish third overall and was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.15.
The SMSU men's team had several high place winners during the meet.
Peda Zeba earned first place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.78m, while
Tyler Smith won the 400 meters at 49.64.
Greg Schafer ran 10.75 to finish second in the 100 meters, while Smith was second in the 200 meters at 22.02.
Hunter Smith picked-up a first place finish in the pole vault at 4.40m with
Chaden Carroll clearing 4.10m to finish second.
Ivan Barrera earned a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 59.19.
McKallen Smith finished second in the high jump at 1.77m with Carroll closing in fourth place at 1.72m.
Carroll also ran in the 110-meter hurdles and earned a third place time of 18.14.
Nathan Lear finished in fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 6.41m.
Tyler Nebelung recorded a toss of 44.76m in the discus to place sixth, while
Tyler Wilson earned ninth place at 43.27m.
Nebelung went 14.65m in the shot put to place fifth, with
Carl Swedzinski right behind in sixth place at 14.49m.
SMSU will have athletes competing later this week at both the Drake Relays and the Simpson College Kip Janvrin Open.
