MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams completed its outdoor season on Saturday setting three more school records at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato. The SMSU squads combined to set eight team records during the three-day championship.
The SMSU men's team closed the championship in 11
th place with 20 points, while the women's team finished 14
th with 6.5 points.
After breaking the 400 meter record for the second time in just over a week during Friday's prelims, SMSU's
Tyler Smith broke the record for a third time on Saturday earning eighth place, and one team point, in the final with a time of 48.28.
Max Schmitt also had a strong day on Saturday running 53.42 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish fourth and earn the team five points.
Peda Zeba recorded a personal best mark of 14.14m in the triple jump to finish seventh and pick-up two team points.
The Mustang men's 4x100-relay team of Smith,
Max Schmitt, Zeba and
Greg Schafer earned two points placing seventh with a time of 41.94.
For the SMSU women's team,
Malayna Kiel broke a school record in the javelin with a toss of 36.06m to finish eighth overall and earn the team one point.
Sierra Clifford earned SMSU two points with a seventh place time of 58.02 in the finals of the 400 meters.
Nancy Peter set a new school mark in the triple jump with a distance of 11.46m to finish in 10
th place.
The 4x400-replay team earned one point as Clifford,
Ella Doble,
Macie Langstraat and
Hannah Koepfinger ran 3:59.09 to place eighth overall.
Minnesota State won both the women's and men's team championships.
