COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State track & field teams opened the outdoor season on Friday competing at the CSB/SJU Optimistic Meet at Clemons Stadium.
The Mustangs put together a strong day with a combined seven first-place finishes.
For the women's team,
Sierra Clifford won the 400 meters with a time of 58.69 with
Ella Doble placing third at 1:02.41.
Madison Marco won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:39.05.
Christine Sleeter cleared 1.59m to win the high jump with
Rainbow Stands finishing in second at 1.56m.
Macie Langstraat and
Carissa Andres finished second and third in the 5,000 meters with times of 19:16.28 and 20:13.38 respectively.
Allison Watts crossed the line in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.59 to finish second, while
Michelle Marquard ran 12.69 in the 100 meters to earn a third place finish.
Nadia Sanford recorded a personal best 41.33m in the discus to finish second and closed with a personal best 44.94m in the hammer throw to finish second. Sanford also competed in the shot put and placed third at 12.20m.
Tavashia Hill ran 26.57 to cross the line in third place in the 200 meters.
For the men's squad,
Tyler Smith captured first place in the 400 meters with a time of 48.64 with teammate
Dylan Schwarz right behind in second place at 49.64.
Max Schmitt ran to a first place time of 55.73 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Peda Zeba won the triple jump with a distance of 13.76m with
Ryan Kronbach finishing third at 13.13m.
In the discus, the Mustangs dominated with
Deekon Anvid winning with a personal best throw of 49.44m, while
Tyler Nebelung also registered a personal best at 48.02m to finish second.
Tyler Wilson closed in fourth place at 45.11m.
Nebelung racked up personal best 49.13m in the hammer throw to finish in second place with Wilson finishing fourth at 46.74m and Anvid in fifth place at 45.99.
Jacob Kunkel cleared 1.91m in the high jump to finish third with Kronbach placing fourth at 1.88m.
Jack Clark sprinted to a time of 15.45 in the 110-meter hurdles to finish second with
Cody Evers placing fourth at 15.61.
SMSU continues it season next Saturday, April 5, at the Norse Invited hosted by Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
