MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's track & field battled windy conditions to put up numerous fast times and high marks, including one school record at the Minnesota State Open on Saturday.
Tyler Smith won the 400 meters breaking his own school record crossing the line at 48.22. He also finished sixth in the 200 meters at 21.79.
Dylan Schwarz finished fifth overall in the 400 meters at 50.11.
Deekon Anvid had a big day as well winning the discus at 52.34m, which ranks second in team history. Teammate
Tyler Nebelung earned third place in the event at 47.41m.
Jacob Kunkel set a season best in the high jump at 1.97m to place fourth overall.
Peda Zeba recorded a mark of 13.63m in the triple to finish second.
For the women's team,
Jada Backes ran a personal best 1:06.64 in the 400-meter hurdle to finish in third place.
Sierra Clifford sprinted to a time of 57.96 to place fourth in the 400 meters.
Nadia Sanford finished with a throw of 43.48m in the discus to place fifth.
Zoe Ruschmeier cleared 3.35m in the pole vault to pick-up a fifth place finish.
Christine Sleeter and
Rainbow Stands tied for fourth place in the high jump at 1.57m.
Emily Lorentz earned sixth place in the shot put at 12.66m.
SMSU returns to Mankato next Friday for the Minnesota State Invite.
