Plumley brothers earn induction into MWCA Hall of Fame Class

MARSHALL, Minn. - Former Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling standouts, twin brothers Les Plumley and Lynn Plumley, will be inducted into the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame on May 17 in Benson, Minn. Both will both be inducted as a coach/contributor to the sport of wrestling.
 
The Plumley brothers graduated from Bird Island High School in 1977 and spent one year attending Granite Falls Technical Institute before transferring to SMSU and competing for head coach Mike Sterner.
 
Les Plumley was a three-time Northern Intercollegiate Conference runner-up in 1980 and 1981 at 126 pounds and again in 1983 at 134 pounds. He was a four-time NAIA national qualifier, while earning NAIA All-American honors three times. He earned a sixth-place national finish in 1979 at 126 pounds, placed seventh finish at 126 pounds in 1981, while earning third place at 134 as a senior in 1983. Les closed his collegiate career with an 67-25-1 career record.
 
Following his collegiate career, Les served as an assistant coach at SMSU and then at Superior State (Wis.) under Scott Davis before assisting Davis at Owatonna High School. He also was an assistant at South Dakota State for three years and served as an assistant coach for numerous years at BOLD High School.
 
Lynn Plumley finished second in the Northern Intercollegiate Conference at 134 pounds in 1979 and placed fourth in 1980. Following a redshirt season in 1980-81, he won the 134-pound conference title in 1982 and was conference champion again at 142 pounds in 1983. A four-time NAIA national qualifier, he capped off his senior season earning NAIA All-American honors in 1983, placing third at 142 pounds. Lynn ended his wrestling career with a record of 84-23-1.
 
Following his wrestling career, Lynn served as a youth and high school coach in the Bird Island area for numerous years.

The induction will take place at McKinney's on Southside with a social beginning at 4 p.m., dinner at 5 p.m. and inductions beginning at 5:30 p.m.
