SMSU Last Time Out: The University of South Dakota's Jesse Becker converted a three-point play with seven seconds left and a controversial charge call on Southwest Minnesota State in the game's final seconds helped USD earn a hard fought 73-69 non-conference victory on Dec. 22 in Vermillion, S.D. SMSU senior guard
Andy Beilke gave SMSU its first lead of the game with 15 seconds left hitting a jump shot to give SMSU a 69-67 lead. On the next USD possession Becker drove to the rim, scored the field goal and connected on the free throw to give the Coyotes a 70-69 lead. SMSU then hurried down the floor to attempt a game-winning shot as Beilke passed to
Ross DeMasi who scored with 1.5 seconds left but the field goal was called off and a charge foul was called on DeMasi. SMSU head coach Greg Stemen was then called for a technical foul and the Coyotes made three of four free throws to seal the victory. DeMasi led SMSU with his third double-double of the season with 10 points and tying a career-high with 16 rebounds.
Taylor Huseby added 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting.

SMSU's 4-0 Start Ties for Best in History:?SMSU's 4-0 start this season tied the school record for the best start to a season. The 1998-99 team also began the season perfect after four games but lost its fifth game of the season to Valley City State. SMSU's chance for a 5-0 start ended with a 78-74 loss to Augustana at the NSIC?HoopsFest in Sioux Falls, S.D. No team in school history has ever began a season 5-0.
Another Solid Start Statistic:?SMSU's 6-1 record to start this season tied the school record for the best start to a season after seven games. The 1974-75 and 2006-07 also started the season 6-1, but only the 2006-07 team won its eighth game of the season to improve to 7-1.

SMSU is now 32-6 in school history when scoring 100 points including 3-0 under head coach Greg Stemen.

Mustang non-starters are averaging 34.5 points per game compared to just 20.6 by their opponents. The SMSU bench has outscored its opponents bench players in 10 of 11 games this season.
