MARSHALL, Minn. — Upper Iowa, ranked No. 10 in the nation, won eight of 10 bouts to defeat Southwest Minnesota State 30-9 in Northern Sun Intercollege Conference wrestling in the PE Gym Friday night.
 
UIU (9-2, 4-0 NSIC) started the match winning the first five duals. Garrett Wangsness started the scoring for the Peacocks with a 6-0 decision over Landyn VanOverbeke at 125. Matt Paulus continued scoring points in favor of UIU at 133 as he recorded a major decision over Taylor Curtis, 8-0.
 
At 141, Jordan Roths defeated Trent Butcher with a 4-0 decision before Trevor Duke also earned a decision at 149 over John Weeding to give the Peacocks a 13-0 lead.
 
Jordan Rinken contributed at 157 with a major decision over Patrick Kelley.
 
Jacob Begin ended the drought at 165 as he defeated Colbey Vance to put the Mustang's first points on the board.
 
Upper Iowa went on to take the next three bouts with a major decision at 174 followed by a pin at 184 to give the Peacocks a 27-3 lead.
 
Ricky Briggs put the final points on the board for Upper Iowa at 197 with a 4-0 decision over Tristan Ezell.
 
Cole Wilson ended the dual on a high note as the heavyweight recorded a fall at 7:55 in overtime for the Mustangs.
