SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Track & Field Championships wrapped up on Saturday at Howard Wood Field with the Southwest Minnesota State men's team placing ninth out of 12 teams with 32 points, while the SMSU women's team earned 31 points and finished 10
th overall out of 14 teams.
Minnesota State won both the women's and men's championships with the women's team earning 152.33 points, while the men's team captured 166.5 points.
Alex Weis claimed the only individual title for SMSU during the two-day championships with a school record toss of 16.29 meters in the men's shot put.
Hannah Palmeter also had a big day for the Mustang women's team earning All-NSIC honors with a second place finish in the 1,500 meters with a school record 4:36.79.
Ben Ryan placed twice on Saturday to record points for SMSU, earning a seventh place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.35 and also placed eighth in the 100 meters at 10.86.
Josh Behning finished eighth in the discus with a mark of 44.34 meters.
SMSU's men's 4x100 relay team of
Dallin Finley,
Ben Ryan,
Matt Konrad and Jordan Janisch had a strong race and finished fourth with a time of 42.76.
The men's 4x400 relay team of Konrad,
Zach Jones, Finley and
Chris Kveseth also scored points with a sixth place time of 3:23.79.
Also for the SMSU women today,
Kim Shabino ran a 25.13 in the 200 meters to finish in sixth place, while Palmeter also earned four points for SMSU in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.14 to finish in fifth place.
Rylee Armstrong recorded a personal best 11.41 meters in the triple jump to finish in fourth place, while teammate
Eisha Oden also earning a fourth place finish in the 400 meters crossing the line at 57.23.
During the first day of the championship on Friday, Weis earned SMSU's first team points of the championship with a fourth place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.22 meters.
Will Hanson also earned SMSU five points with a fourth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 48.78 meters.
For the women's team, Armstrong recorded an eighth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.49 meters to earn SMSU its one team point.
