SMSU Esports prepares for busy week

MARSHALL, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State Esports team returns to action this week with a full slate of gaming. 
 
Their week starts Monday, as they match up with Buena Vista in Rocket League at 7 p.m. SMSU is 0-1 thus far on the Rocket League season, dropping all three games against Iowa State by scores of 6-0, 5-1 and 4-1. Gavin Rohner and Sean Sauve each collected a goal for the Mustangs, while Rohner would go on to make 10 saves in three games and average an score per match of 400. Their league plays every Monday night. 
 
On Tuesday, The League of Legends squad will continue their season with a match against Miami University Scarlet. The League of Legends squad has started the season 0-2 dropping matches to Milwaukee School of Engineering and Central Michigan by 2-0 scores. They compete every Tuesday night. 
 
Their week wraps up on Thursday in Valorant, with the SMSU Brown squad facing Simpson College, and the SMSU Gold squad taking on Southern State. The teams are split and each team plays every Thursday night at 7 p.m. Each team is 0-1 to begin the season, with Brown suffering a loss to Concordia-St. Paul, and Gold falling to Northwestern State University. 
 
All Esports coverage can be found on their twitch page, including replays of each match. The 2021-22 season is the second season in program history, with Head Coach Spencer Louwagie in his second season leading the charge.
