SMSU Esports preparing for playoffs

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University Esports team has been competing in its winter season under the lead of Spencer Louwagie. The Esports team is divided up into various teams, games and leagues. Here are where things currently stand in the fall season. 
 
Rocket League – NACE (Best of five series)
The Mustangs Rocket League team has been competing in two separate leagues again this winter, in the NACE, the team is currently 3-2 in series, 11-8 in individual games and tied for fourth with three team points. SMSU's only losses have come against UNT Dallas and Fanshawe Academy, who currently rank first and second in the division.
 
Rocket League – NECC (Best of five series)
In the NECC, the Rocket League team finished in second place during the regular season with a record of 4-2 in series and 15-10 in individual games. SMSU will face Murray State on Friday, March 22 in the first round of the postseason, the Mustangs beat Murray State 3-1 to start their Winter NECC season.
 
Valorant Brown – NECC (Best of three series)
The Valorant Brown team competes in the NECC and finished the regular season 3-4 in individual matches to place sixth in their group, and missing playoffs.
 
Valorant Gold – NACE (Best of three series)
After a fall season that saw the Valorant Gold win the Midwest finals, the team has managed to keep their momentum going through the winter season. Valorant Gold is a perfect 6-0 so far this season, and a perfect 10-0 in matches. The final match of the regular season for Valorant Gold will be against Randolph-Mason College, who is also a perfect 6-0 this season and 12-0 in matches.
 
Overwatch – NECC (Best of five series)
The Mustangs Overwatch team is currently in third place in the Heartland B group, currently 4-2 in series and 11-8 in individual matches. Their first series of the playoffs will come against Morningside, who placed tied for first in the Heartland A group after going 5-1 in series and 15-3 in individual matches. The series is scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m.
 
Counter Strike 2 – NACE (Best of three series)
The Mustangs Counter Strike 2 team finished their regular season with a record of 1-5 to place sixth in their group.
 
League of Legends – NECC (Best of three series)
The SMSU League of Legends team finished the regular season 4-1 in series, with a record of 9-3 in individual matches to place tied for first in the Midwest A group. The team will face Waldorf in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m., Waldorf placed third in the Midwest B group.
