MARSHALL, Minn. - The SMSU Esports team has concluded its fall regular season schedule. Here is how each team performed in the regular season.
Overwatch – NECC (Best of five series)
The SMSU Overwatch team concluded its regular season on Thursday, as they matched up with the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, in a matchup of undefeated teams. The Mustangs battled the Falcons to a full five game series, but were unable to win the final match, losing the series by a score of 3-2.
Finishing the regular season at 4-1 in series and 11-5 in individual games, SMSU landed 2nd in the standings in the Midwest A group stage. The Mustangs will face the Grand View university Vikings, who ended the regular season 3-2 in series, 9-11 in individual games, to finish 3rd in the Midwest B group stage. That match will take place Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
League of Legends – NECC (Best of three series)
The SMSU League of Legends team concluded its regular season on Wednesday. The Mustangs ended their season with a 2-4 record in series, going 4-9 in individual games in the regular season.
The League of Legends team will begin its playoff campaign tonight at 7 p.m. The Mustangs will face the Lakeland University Muskies, who finished the regular season a perfect 6-0, 12-0 in individual games. That match will take place tonight at 7 p.m.
Fall Valorant A – NACE (Best of three series)
The SMSU Valorant A team finished the regular season with a record of 2-5 in series and 7-10 in individual games to finish 5th in their group in the regular season. The Mustangs will face the DePaul Blue Demons in their first playoff matchup. The two teams faced off in the regular season, with SMSU winning the first game, 13-10, before DePaul won the next two games by scores of 13-7 and 13-8, to take the series 2-1. That match will take place tonight at 6 p.m.
Fall Valorant B – NECC (Best of three series)
The SMSU Valorant B team finished the regular season with a record of 2-4 in series and 3-8 in individual games to finish 5th in their group. With only the top four teams in the group advancing to playoffs, the Valorant B team is done for the fall season.
Rocket League – NACE (Best of five series, seven for playoffs)
The SMSU Rocket League team finished the NACE regular season with a record of 4-2 in series and 12-12 in individual games to finish third in the East 10 conference. The Mustangs won their first playoff series, defeating the fifth seed Landmark College Sharks 4-2.
The next matchup for SMSU will be against the University of North Texas at Dallas on Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.
Rocket League – NECC (Best of five series)
The SMSU Rocket League team finished the NECC regular season with a record of 4-2 in series and 10-9 in individual games to finish third in the Heartland A group. The Mustangs will face off with the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, who finished their regular season as the number two seed in the Heartland B group with a record of 5-1 in series and 13-4 in individual games.
That match is scheduled for 10 p.m. on Friday. Nov. 17.
