MARSHALL, Minn. - The SMSU Esports team has been competing in playoffs, here are updates on the individual teams that make up the Esports team.
Overwatch – NECC (Best of five series)
The SMSU Overwatch team finished the regular season at 4-1 in series and 11-5 in individual games, SMSU landed 2nd in the standings in the Midwest A group stage. In the first round, the Mustangs faced the Grand View University Vikings, who ended the regular season 3-2 in series, 9-11 in individual games, to finish 3rd in the Midwest B group stage. The Mustangs dominated the series, picking up 2-0, 2-1 and 3-0 victories on their way to a sweep.
The Mustangs are now in the semifinals of the Midwest playoffs stage, where they will match up against the top team from the Midwest B region, the Morningside University (Iowa) Mustangs. Morningside showed that they were a class above the rest of the teams in the Midwest B group, going 5-0 in series and 15-0 in individual games. The semifinal match will be played on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and can be watched on the SMSU Esports twitch channel

League of Legends – NECC (Best of three series)
The SMSU League of Legends team concluded their season with a 2-4 record in series, going 4-9 in individual games in the regular season.
The Mustangs fell to the Lakeland University Muskies, who finished the regular season a perfect 6-0, 12-0 in individual games.
Fall Valorant A – NACE (Best of three series)
The SMSU Valorant A team finished the regular season with a record of 2-5 in series and 7-10 in individual games to finish 5th in their group in the regular season. The Mustangs lost to the DePaul Blue Demons in their playoff matchup.
Rocket League – NACE (Best of five series, seven for playoffs)
The SMSU Rocket League team finished the NACE regular season with a record of 4-2 in series and 12-12 in individual games to finish third in the East 10 conference. The Mustangs won their first playoff series, defeating the fifth seed Landmark College Sharks 4-2.
SMSU lost its second playoff series against the University of North Texas at Dallas. UNT Dallas won 3-0, by scores of 4-3, 3-2 and 4-1.
Rocket League – NECC (Best of five series)
The SMSU Rocket League team finished the NECC regular season with a record of 4-2 in series and 10-9 in individual games to finish third in the Heartland A group. The Mustangs faced off with the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, who finished their regular season as the number two seed in the Heartland B group with a record of 5-1 in series and 13-4 in individual games.
The Warhawks won a close match, defeating the Mustangs 3-2 by scores of 4-5, 3-2, 4-0, 0-1, 3-2.
