BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State track & field teams returned to competition on Friday at the South Dakota State D2 Invite inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
For the Mustang women's team,
Isatu Shirek set a school record in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.02. She then went on to place sixth in the final with a time of 9.18. Shirek also ran in the 200 meters and finished 10
th at 26.07.
Catherine Ihrke ran 11.10.86 in the 3,000 meters to finish seventh overall, while
Nadia Sanford finished in 10
th place in the shot put at 12.65m.
For the men's team,
Renald Pierre ran 8.46 in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles to pick-up a fifth place finish.
Hunter Smith went 4.0m in the pole vault to earn a sixth place finish overall.
Isaiah Nelson finished 10
th in the long jump at 6.48m, with teammate
Nathan Lear in 11
th place at 6.47m. Nelson also competed in the triple jump and finished 11
th at 13.25m.
McKallen Smith tied for 11
th in the high jump at 1.85m.
Southwest Minnesota State will next compete on Jan. 28-29 at the Minnesota State Mark Schuck Open and Multi.
