BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State track & field teams returned to competition on Friday at the South Dakota State D2 Invite inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
 
For the Mustang women's team, Isatu Shirek set a school record in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.02. She then went on to place sixth in the final with a time of 9.18. Shirek also ran in the 200 meters and finished 10^th at 26.07.
 
Catherine Ihrke ran 11.10.86 in the 3,000 meters to finish seventh overall, while Nadia Sanford finished in 10^th place in the shot put at 12.65m.
 
For the men's team, Renald Pierre ran 8.46 in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles to pick-up a fifth place finish.
 
Hunter Smith went 4.0m in the pole vault to earn a sixth place finish overall.
 
Isaiah Nelson finished 10^th in the long jump at 6.48m, with teammate Nathan Lear in 11^th place at 6.47m. Nelson also competed in the triple jump and finished 11^th at 13.25m.
 
McKallen Smith tied for 11^th in the high jump at 1.85m.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will next compete on Jan. 28-29 at the Minnesota State Mark Schuck Open and Multi.
