Mustangs set two more records in second day of MSU Open

MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams concluded the MSU Mark Schuck Open & Multi on Saturday recording a pair of school records. The SMSU teams combined to set five school records in the two-day event.
 
Isatu Shirek, who set a school record on Friday in the 300 meters, ran 8.96 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles to set a new program record. She finished fourth overall in the finals with a time of 9.09.
 
Zak Kubitz set a new school mark in the heptathlon with recording 4,120 points to finish fourth overall.
 
Isaiah Nelson finished third in the triple jump on Saturday with a distance of 13.68m.
 
Jed Hansen went 4.30m in the pole vault to finish sixth, while teammate Hunter Smith finished tied for ninth at 4.0m.
 
Nathan Lear also finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.22m, while Carl Swedzinski earned a sixth place mark in the shot put at 14.44m.
 
The SMSU men's team recorded 38 points to place seventh out of 15 teams, while the SMSU women's team finished tied for eighth out of 17 teams with 26 points.
 
Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5, competing at the USD Alumni Open in Vermillion, S.D.
