MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams put together another strong meet on Friday with numerous high place winners while competing at a strong field at the Deb Schulz Open hosted by Minnesota State University.
The meet feature athletes from nine NSIC schools, with most preparing for next week's NSIC Championships.
For the Mustang women's team,
Isatu Shirek ran 14.37 in the finals of the 100-meters to finish in fourth place. Shirek along with two teammates had solid times in the 200-meters to earn top 10 finishes. Shirek ran 25.23 to place sixth,
Taytum Klink finished eighth at 25.57, while
Sierra Clifford ran 25.60 to finish ninth.
Clifford also had a big day in the 400-meters running 58.11 to place second overall.
In field events,
Kate Battaforyen finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.96m with
Nadia Sanford recording a sixth-place mark of 12.15m.
For the men's team,
McKallen Smith placed second in the high jump at 1.93m, while teammate
Nathan Lear went 6.99m in the long jump to finish in fifth place.
Tyler Smith ran a strong 200-meters to finish in fourth place at 21.97. He also picked-up a sixth-place time of 50.94 in the 400-meters.
Shealyn Tom cleared a height of 3.28m to earn fourth place.
For the men's team,
McKallen Smith placed second in the high jump at 1.93m, while teammate
Nathan Lear went 6.99m in the long jump to finish in fifth place.
Max Schmitt finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.42.
Deekon Anvid threw 42.66m in the discus to finish sixth, while
Carl Swedzinski was seventh in the hammer throw at 47.71m.
Hunter Smith recorded a fifth-place mark of 4.47m in the pole vault.
In the shot put,
Brendon Rasmussen was fifth at 14.63, while
Tyler Nebelung finished sixth at 14.47m.
Noah Eckelberg set new school marks in both the wheelchair 100-meters at 15.22 and in the wheelchair 400-meters at 52.69.
SMSU will compete at the NSIC Championships next Thursday through Saturday hosted by Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.
