BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams opened the 2024-25 indoor season on Friday competing at the SDSU Holiday Open and Multi inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
For the men's team,
Tyler Smith set a school record in the 200 meters with a time of 22.08 to finish seventh overall and set a school record in the 600 meters finishing third with a time of 1:21.45.
Dylan Schwarz finished fifth in the 600 meters at 1:25.01 with
Roel Palomo earning eighth place at 1:25.83.
Tyler Nebelung had a strong day in the championship flight of the weight throw with a third-place toss of 17.93m.
Peda Zeba recorded a mark of 13.46m in the triple jump to finish sixth overall.
Deekon Anvid placed fifth in the weigh throw at 15.72m.
Jacob Kunkel and
Ryan Kronbach both finished at 1.95m in the high jump to tie for sixth place.
Nadia Sanford secured a third-place mark of 15.48m in the women's weight throw, while teammate
Emily Lorentz finished sixth at 14.90m.
Sanford earned eight-place in the championship flight of the shot put at 13.28m.
Sierra Clifford ran 1:39.46 in the 600 meters to earn fourth place.
Christine Sleeter cleared 1.58m to tie for sixth in the high jump.
The meet continues Saturday with
Jack Clark and
Chaden Carroll competing for the Mustangs to complete the men's heptathlon.
