MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams recorded 13 first place finishes and had numerous top five place-winners competing at the Cobber Open on Saturday.
On the men's side,
Greg Schafer earned a first-place finish in the men's 60-meters with a time of 7.12.
Cody Evers captured first place in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.68.
Peyton Hooper earned another first-place finish for the Mustangs in the men's 200-meter (24.01).
Jacob Kunkel placed first in the men's high jump with 1.88m.
Peda Zeba won the triple jump at 14.10m and was third in the long jump at 6.26m.
Tyler Nebelung secured a first-place finish in the men's weight throw at 17.45m and a second-place finish in the men's shot put at 14.87m.
A team consisting of
Tyler Smith,
Max Schmitt,
Peyton Hooper, and
Dylan Schwarz snagged a first-place finish in the men 4x200m relay with a school-record time of 1:30.56.
In the men 4x400 relay,
Max Schmitt,
Roel Palomo,
Dylan Schwarz, and
Tyler Smith ran a 3:29.35 for a first-place finish.
On the women's side,
Sierra Clifford finished first in the women's 600-meter with a time of 1:42.55 and
Brooke Wetterstrom placed second at 1:46.63 for the Mustangs.
Lexy Gilbert placed third in the women's 200-meter with a time of 28.02.
Macie Langstraat placed third in the women's 1-mile with a time of 5:26.88.
Christine Sleeter finished at 1.62m in the high jump to finish first overall.
Shealyn Tom cleared 3.27m in the pole vault to earn first place for the SMSU women's team.
Nadia Sanford recorded a toss of 13.11m to finish first in the shot put. Sanford also placed second in the weight throw at 15.24m.
In the women's 4x400m relay,
Brooke Wetterstrom,
Ella Doble,
Macie Langstraat, and
Sierra Clifford placed second with a time of 4:12.45.
SMSU will be back in action next Friday Jan. 31 competing at the Mark Schuck Open & Multi in Mankato, Minn.
