MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's track & field teams battled windy conditions on Friday competing at the Maverick Invitational hosted by Minnesota State University.
Despite the tough conditions, the Mustangs were able to achieve a pair of first-place finishes and numerous personal best times and marks.
Sierra Clifford ran 57.36 in the 400 meters to take home first place and pace the SMSU women's team.
Nadia Sanford recorded a personal best 50.65m in the hammer throw to finish in second place and placed fourth in the shot put at 13.04m.
Madison Marco crossed the finish line in the 3,000 meters at 11:42.55 to earn third place.
Jada Backes had a strong run in the 400-meter hurdles to place fifth at 1:05.73.
Christine Sleeter and
Rainbow Stands finished fourth and fifth respectively in the high jump at 1.67m and 1.62m.
Macie Langstraat ran 2:22.66 in the 800 meters to finish sixth.
On the men's side,
Peda Zeba won the triple jump with a distance of 13.66m.
Jacob Kunkel cleared 1.93m in the high jump to place third with
McKallen Smith sixth at 1.83m.
Deekon Anvid recorded a toss of 50.16m in the discus to earn fourth place overall.
Cody Evers placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.22.
Dylan Schwarz ran 49.66 in the 400 meters to take home sixth place.
SMSU will compete next week at the Drake Relays with four individuals competing and several relay teams participating.
