DES MOINES, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field program had three relay teams set program records on Friday and Saturday at the Drake Relays.
The men's 4x200 relay of
Tyler Smith,
Max Schmitt,
Bjorn Mattick and
Dylan Schwarz placed ninth out of nearly 30 teams with a school record time of 1:28.01 on Friday. The previous record was 1:29.01 set during the 2019 season.
Also on Friday, the women's 4x200 relay team also set a school record as
Lexy Gilbert,
Tavashia Hill,
Ella Doble and
Sierra Clifford ran 1:42.62 to finish 14th out of 26 teams. The previous school mark was set last season at 1:45.34.
The men's 4x200 relay team
On Saturday, the women's distance medley relay of
Macie Langstraat,
Brooke Wetterstrom,
Kyra Kusnierek and
Madison Marco, set a program record with a time of 12:43.85 to finish 10
th. The time broke the previous record set last season by nearly 10 seconds.
SMSU had several other individuals and relay teams compete during the meet on Friday. The Mustangs' women's 4x100 relay of
Lexy Gilbert, Hill,
Michelle Marquard and Clifford ran 49.66 to finish 27
th.
The women's sprint medley relay of Thieschafer, Hill, Doble and Langstraat ran 4:20.55 to earn a 13
th place finish.
The SMSU women's team had two individuals compete on Friday with
Nadia Sanford finishing 16
th in the shot put at 12.51m, while Clifford ran 57.62 in the 400 meters to pace 18
th overall.
For the men's team,
Deekon Anvid earned 12
th place in the discus at 50.14m with teammate
Max Schmitt placing 13
th in the 400-meter hurdles at 53.90.
The men's sprint medley relay consisting of Schwarz, Schmitt, Smith and
Roel Palomo recorded a time of 3:34.49 to earn ninth place.
The men's 4x100 relay squad of Smith,
Peyton Hooper, Schmitt and
Greg Schafer finished 24
th with a time of 42.72.
SMSU also had two individual compete at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, on Friday.
Allison Watts ran 15.61 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish 11
th, while
Carter Schwalbe ran 2:03.94 in the 800 meters to finish 82
nd.
SMSU returns to action on Wednesday at the Maverick Open #1 hosted by Minnesota State University.
