SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's cross-country squad returned to the course today competing at the Dordt College Invitational. The SMSU women's team finished in eighth place with 222 points, while the men's team finished in a tie for 13th place with 380 points.
Dordt won the women's team championship with 49 points, also capturing the men's title with 27 points.
The Mustangs' top seven finishers recorded personal best times on the day.
Caitlyn Regan covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:29 to finish in 33rd place for the Mustangs.
Catherine Ihrke finished the day with a time of 19:52.95 to finish in 35th, while
Macie Langstraat finished with a 20:04.07, good enough to finish 44th.
Kyra Kusnierek closed her day with a 20:28.47 to finish 58th, while
Hannah Koepfinger (21:10.54),
Savanna Busch (21:15.66), and
Josephine Lentz (21:23.06) all finished in the top 100 to round out the group with career days.
For the SMSU men's team,
John Ziemkowski ran a personal-best 27:32.43 in the 8,000-meter race to finish with the Mustangs' fastest time.
Brayden Tofteland also ran a personal-best 27:38.74,
Daniel Olson recorded a time of 29:32.40,
Michael Boyd finished with a time of 31:12.73, while
Ryan Russek crossed at 34:23.14.
Southwest Minnesota State will now have 11 days off before competing at the St. Cloud State Waxlax Invitational in St. Cloud, Minn., on Oct. 19.
