MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State indoor track & field teams competed on Saturday at the NSIC & Friends Challenge at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State setting three more school records.
Isatu Shirek broke her own school record in the 60m hurdles with a prelims time of 8.95 and then set the record once again in the finals with a time of 8.93 to finish in third place overall.
Shealyn Tom also set a school record in the pole vault at 3.24m to finish sixth overall.
Brycelyn Hanson ran 1:42.90 in the 600 meters to earn fourth place, while
Sierra Clifford picked up a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 59.86.
Morgan Hughes had a toss of 15.26m in the weight throw to place ninth overall.
SMSU's 4x400 relay team of Clifford,
Leah Tietjens, Hanson and Shirek finished fourth with a time of 4:07.41.
On the men's side,
McKallen Smith recorded a school record mark of 1.98m to finish first in the high jump, while teammates
Isaiah Nelson and
Nathan Lear went third and fourth in the long jump at 6.66m and 6.55m respectively. Nelson also won the triple jump with a mark of 13.73m.
Renald Pierre earned third place in the 60m hurdles crossing the line with an NCAA provisional time of 8.21.
Brendon Rasmussen earned a sixth place mark in the shot put at 14.48m, while
Carl Swedzinski finished in seventh place with a throw of 16.15m in the weight throw.
On Friday, several SMSU athletes competed at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic. In the women's 3,000 meter run,
Catherine Ihrke finished 18th with a time of 10:49.88.
SMSU will have its final meet prior to the NSIC Championships on Friday, Feb. 19, competing at the SDSU Last Chance Meet.
