ABERDEEN, S.D. – The 2022 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships concluded on Saturday with the Southwest Minnesota State women's team placing 13
th with 13 points, while the men's team finished 11
th with nine points.
The three-day championship was held at the Swisher Athletic Complex and was hosted by Northern State University.
The Minnesota State women's team captured first-place out of 15 teams with 191 points with Minnesota State capturing the men's 12-team championship recording 214 points.
On Saturday,
Isaiah Nelson went 14.34m in the triple jump to earn fifth-place for the Mustangs and pick up four team points. Nelson also competed in the javelin and finished ninth overall at 45.28m.
Hunter Smith set a men's school record in the pole vault with a mark of 4.48m to tie for seventh overall and earn a team point.
In the finals of the 110-meter hurdles,
Zak Kubitz placed seventh at 15.65, while
Renald Pierre was eighth at 15.87 to combine and earn SMSU three points.
Tyler Nebelung earned an eighth-place toss of 47.99 in the discus to earn one team point.
For the SMSU women's team,
Isatu Shirek earned three team points by placing sixth in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles at 14.62 and finished eighth in the finals of the 200-meters at 25.58 to earn one point.
Kate Battaforyen picked up three team points with a sixth-place finish in the discus at 45.32m.
Sierra Clifford finished in seventh place in the finals of the 400-meters crossing the finish line at 58.45 to earn two team points.
