Mustangs complete day two of NSIC Championships

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The second day of the 2022 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Northern State University, wrapped-up Friday night at the Swisher Athletics Complex. Several events were moved indoors due to strong wind throughout the day.
 
SMSU had a handful of athletes advance to finals on Saturday and one record set on Friday.
 
Isatu Shirek advanced to Saturday's finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a prelim time of 14.43 and advanced to the finals of the 200-meters with a time of 25.01.
 
Sierra Clifford ran 59.01 in the 400-meters to advance to Saturday's finals.
 
Shealyn Tom earned the SMSU women's team four team points with a fifth-place and school record mark of 3.44m in the pole vault.
 
Taytum Klink went 5.37m in the long jump to finish in 13th.
 
On the men's side, Renald Pierre and Zak Kubitz both moved to Saturday's finals of the 110-meter hurdles. Pierre ran 14.59 to finish third in the prelims, while Kubitz finished with the eighth fastest time at 15.64.
 
Max Schmitt just missed moving to the finals of the 400-meters as he placed ninth at 55.87, while Nathan Lear was 11th at 57.57.
 
Carl Swedzinski finished 10th overall in the hammer throw at 47.56.
 
Brendon Rasmussen threw 14.02m in the shot put to finish 13th.
 
Isaiah Nelson placed 12th in the long jump at 6.80m, with teammate Nathan Lear finishing 14th at 6.77m.
 
SMSU's Isadora Mickelson and Blain Dilly both competed on Thursday and Friday in the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively.
 
Mickelson on Friday finished 14th in the long jump at 4.80m, 20th in the javelin at 15.07m, and 20th in the 800-meters at 2:59.27. On Thursday, she ran 16.04 in the 100-meter hurdles to place ninth, finished 10th in the shot put at 9.54m, was 16th in the 200-meters crossing the line at 28.15 and placed 21st in the high jump at 1.38m. Mickelson finished the seven events with 3,394 points for 19th place.
 
Dilly closed the decathlon on Friday earning a total of 4,269 points to finish 13th overall. He placed 13th in the 110-meter hurdles crossing the line at 21.89, eighth in the javelin at 37.91m, 11th in the pole vault at 2.98m, ninth in the discus at 22.30m and 13th in the 1500 meters at 6:09.92. In Thursday's action, Dilly finished 10th in the long jump at 6.01m, 10th in the 100-meters at 12.04, 10th in the high jump with a mark of 1.73m, 12th in the shot put at 8.81m and 13th in the 400-meters with a time of 56.62.
 
Noah Eckelberg recorded a time of 16.04 in the wheelchair 100-meters.
 
The final day of the three-day meet continues Saturday at 11 a.m.
