SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
Dan Lee (football/wrestling/baseball, 1977-83) was a three-sport stalwart in football, wrestling and baseball. He participated four years in both football and wrestling and two in baseball.
Lee, a native of Dawson, Minn., posted 315 tackles in football and led the Mustangs in tackles for losses in each of his four seasons. He also led the 1980 squad with three fumble recoveries and six sacks and the 1981 team with 40 solo tackles and 11 sacks. He was named All-NIC in 1981, the school's first winning football season.
Lee still ranks (as of 2009) third all-time in school history in tackles and second in tackles for loss.
In wrestling, Lee served two years as team captain and was the NIC champion at 190 pounds, an NAIA All-America at 177 after finishing fifth in the national meet and SMSU's Most Valuable Player, all in 1981. Lee capped his collegiate eligibility as SMSU's Most Valuable Player in baseball in 1983, leading the team with 31 games, 103 at bats, 35 hits, five doubles and eight steals.
Lee was inducted into the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Hall of Fame in 2004.
