SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
Dick Jorgensen (community member) was involved with SMSU and its athletic department since the University opened in 1967.
He served on a committee of local community members that first met in the late 1950s to establish a college in Marshall, and during the next 10 years, he remained a member of the committee until the University opened officially in 1967.
Jorgensen’s association with the Mustang Booster Club began in September of 1969, when he and eight other community and college members established the original organization to encourage, support and promote intercollegiate athletics at SMSU.
He has spent countless hours supporting the University and its athletic department; including helping provide funding for numerous projects on campus as well as the Barbara and Richard Jorgensen Scholarship fund. In 2002, he also wrote the book, A History of Southwest State University, with all proceeds going to the SMSU Foundation.
