Troy Mentzer (wrestling, 1989-93) was a three-time NAIA All-America, which included a national runner-up finish in 1993, and was a four-time conference champion during his Mustang career. At the time he was just the seventh wrestler to win four individual conference championships in the league’s history.
A native of Kimball, S.D., he earned his first All-America honor in 1991 at 118 lb., by finishing fourth at the NAIA national championships and ended the season with a record of 29-13. In 1992, he finished the season 33-8 at 126 lb. and took home All-America honors by once again placing in fourth place.
During his senior season in 1992-93, Mentzer battled injuries throughout the season but earned a trip to nationals and once again earned All-America accolades at 126 lb. He won his first four matches of the championship and advanced to the finals before losing losing by tech. fall and taking home national runner-up honors. He finished the season with an overall record of 20-5.
Mentzer finished his career with a record of 96-42 and was a member of one conference championship team.
