SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
Amanda Johnson (2006-09) was a four-year letter winner for the Mustang softball team helping lead the Mustangs to a dominate run as one of the top teams in the region, as well as establishing herself as the most successful pitcher in program history.
Johnson, a native of Fremont, Neb., put together a career that may never be matched in team history. She was a four-time NSIC Pitcher of the Year and was a member of four NSIC regular season championship and four NCAA Tournament teams that combined for a four-year record of 150-60.
During her freshman season in 2006, SMSU won a school record 41 games and finished 14-0 in NSIC play. Johnson, named the NSIC Newcomer of the Year, earned 23 victories in the circle, while recording a 1.50 ERA in 218 innings with a school record 298 strikeouts.
Johnson won 27 games in 2007 recording a school record 31 complete games with a school record 11 shutouts. She racked-up 277 strikeouts in 233 innings and finished with a 1.41 ERA. SMSU won both the NSIC regular season and tournament championships and placed third at the NCAA Region Tournament.
Johnson earned the first of her two Daktronics Region Pitcher of the Year awards in 2008, earning a school record 28 victories with a 1.30 ERA in 242 innings. In her final season in 2009, Johnson won 20 games with a 1.66 ERA with 234 strikeouts. She tossed a no-hitter during the season and also reached the 1,000-career strikeout mark, becoming just the 15th pitcher in Division II history to reach the milestone.
Johnson, a four-time all-region honoree, finished her career ranking first in school history in nearly every pitching category including wins (98), saves (14), appearances (159), shutouts (34), innings pitched (909.1), strikeouts (1,087) and complete games (102).
